How to Set Up a Facebook Business Page

Facebook is almost a necessity for a small business to grow in today’s techno society. Follow these few steps below and you will be Facebooking like a pro in no time.

Click this link or copy and paste in your browser’s address bar. This will take you to your first set of options.

1. Choose a Classification

Once there, choose from one of the following six classifications:

  • Local business or place
  • Company, organization, or institution
  • Brand or product
  • Artist, band, or public figure
  • Entertainment
  • Cause of community

The correct classification will help search engines place your business in the most relevant searches.

After making your selection, choose the category and fill in tour business name, address, etc… Keep in mind that your category and business name CANNOT be changed once your page is created.

2. Basic Information

Upload Photo

You can upload an image from your computer or export from your Website, if you have one. This image will be the one associated with your page. It appears as an icon next to your business name. It could be a photo of yourself, your store if you have one, or your business logo.

About Section

The About Section is what sets you apart from your competitors. You want it to be brief but descriptive. State what you do that is better than the others in your field. Don’t forget to choose a good and unique web address; one that will be easy for customers to remember.

3. Admin Panel

Your admin panel is the tool box for managing your page. It's filled with numerous features and options.

Edit Page In the upper right corner you have the Edit Page option. This will allow you to edit basic information on your page. From the “Update Info” option, you will enter an extended version of your “About Section”. You can add your Mission Statement or Vision Statement here as well. You can also allow other in your business to respond to your customer’s comments without having total administrative access.

Build Audience

The Build Audience tab allows you to invite people from your email contact list to befriend you. It also gives you the option to set up advertisements; however, this is a paid feature.

Cover Photo and Tabs

A cover photo helps personalize your visitor’s experience. It needs to be horizontal and fit within 851 X 315 pixels.

Tabs can be used to separate groups of photos, departments, associates, etc… Although only four tabs are customizable and can be seen, you can have as many tabs as you want under the dropdown arrow.

When posting content, you should post photos and information your visitors would be interested in. Do you have a new product? Is your business expanding? Are there other web sites you would like your visitors to see? You get the idea.

Be sure to interact with your viewers. Responding to their posts and private messages creates a sort of bond; they feel like they know you better.

Once you create your business page and play around with the various options, I’m sure you will have a positive experience. Enjoy.
